DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Freight are each building an advanced freight terminal and an office building with a total of 12,000 square metres of warehouse space and 3,500 square metres of office space at DHL's new facility at Vienna airport.
'This will pool competencies for air and ocean freight as well as land and intermodal transport centrally at one location and create new, larger capacities for cargo,' said the company.
The adjacent Vienna airport and the connection to the A4 freeway will enable DHL to provide logistics services, reported London's Air Cargo News.
Previously, DHL operated out of three locations in Vienna, which will now be merged into one. Their new warehouse and office will meet the Transported Asset Protection Association's (TAPA) security standards and comply with environmental protection requirements.
DHL Global Forwarding managing director Christoph Wahl said: 'This modern logistics hub, which meets the highest safety and quality standards, will enable us not only to handle a higher volume of freight for our customers, for instance in the life sciences and healthcare industry, but also to provide an even better service.
'The direct proximity to the airport will reduce turnaround times and create valuable synergies with our colleagues in road transport.'
Completion of the new DHL Campus Vienna Airport is scheduled for the first quarter of 2019. Some 250 employees will then dispatch and consolidate freight at the new location.
