The fire brigade in Flushing was alerted after fumes were released on the "Bow Hector" on March 25, 2017, at 6 p.m. Safety Zealand was notified about the fumes coming from the so-called excesses aboard the tanker. Rijkswaterstaat deployed a team of the Maritime Incident Response Group (MIRG) which departed from the Poseidon pier in Flushing one hour after the call aboard the "RWS 78". The tanker was between Zoutelande and Nieuwvliet. Around 7.55 the MIRG reported that hitherto no substances were measured that may be hazardous to health. Additional measurements were done around 8:30 p.m. and showed that no dangerous substances could be measured. The tanker was underway from Antwerp to Rotterdam.
