The "Lomaiviti Princess IV" ran aground on May 19, 2017, Viani Bay in Cakaudrove while trying to shelter from Tropical Cyclone Ella, which was expected to hit the North over the weekend. The ship was refloated, but was expected to resume operations along the Taveuni Buca Bay route in July after repairs in Suva. The grounding was caused by human error. The sustained damage was close to $100,000. All replacement parts for the repair of the ship will have to be brought from New Zealand to Fiji. The vessel, which has a capacity of 400 passengers and six 10-wheeler trucks or 19 cars, will not be replaced in the meantime.
