FREIGHT traffic across European gateways rose by 3.9 per cent in April and the number of dedicated cargo flights was up 3.5 per cent year on year.
European Union airports registered a freight throughput increase of 3.4 per cent while traffic at non-EU airports rose by 6.7 per cent, according to data from European airport trade association, ACI Europe.
The top European freight hubs in April were Frankfurt (up 1.5 per cent year on year at 179,012 tonnes), Paris Charles de Gaulle (down 1.5 per cent at 160,516 tonnes), London Heathrow (up 2.3 per cent to 141,215 tonnes) and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (down 6.3 per cent to 137,149 tonnes), reported London's Air Cargo News.
Istanbul's Ataturk gateway came in fifth after its freight volume increased 15 per cent to 110,218 tonnes in April.
