At 7.10 p.m. the "Værøy" suffered a complete engine sblackout about one hour outside Røst in the Vestfjord and started drifting southward. 25 minutes later, passengers were told that the engines were running again. A human error had caused the entire system on board to be out of order and that the fire alarm went on. The ferry had left Bodø at 4 p.m. bound for Røst and on to Værøy.
