Originally scheduled for Feb 13, the salvage of the "Down North" in the Szczecin marina across the bridge to the isle of Grodzka will be carried out in a few days. Arrangements were still being made on the timing and method of raising of the wreck. The Polish owner of the yacht arrived in Szczecin and talked with representatives of the Maritime Office. Once the "Down North" has been raised, the water will be pumped out and the fault removed that caused the sinking of the unit. Currently it was not possible to pull the boat ashore, since the Old Town Quay was undergoing renovations. The small oil slick has been removed by the fire department. A ruptured cooling water pipe could have caused the sinking.
