The volume of exported goods increased from 390,100 tonnes in January 2016 to 674,500 tonnes in January this year - an increase of 284,400 tonnes - supported by the rise in the exported quantities of methanol, fertilisers, and molasses, reported Cairo?s Daily News Egypt.
In 2016 the port registered a container throughput increase of 12.6 per cent compared to 2015, after handling 810,300 TEU.
The number of vessels during January 2017 rose 6.3 per cent year on year to 220 ships, up from 207 during the same month in 2016.
The number of vessels received by the port during 2016 went up eight per cent year on year to 2,562. The report attributed the increase to the higher number of dry bulk ships that went up by 46 per cent to 690 vessels.
