CMA CGM has announced that it is introducing an emergency port congestion surcharge (PCS) for all cargo transiting the Greek Port of Thessaloniki.
The French shipping line said that it is taking this action owing to increased operational costs and service disruptions generated by ongoing traffic congestion at one of biggest seaports in Greece.
The surcharge is effective from the bill of lading date of January 8 for all trades barring US trade routes. The planned implementation date of February 1 for US trades is subject to filing.
The surcharge is US$80 per TEU and $160 per FEU. The surcharge will be applied on top of the regular ocean freight rate, the carrier said.
