Using thermal imaging, salvage experts on Juen 22 found out that the source of the wisps of smoke still emanating from 'SSL Kolkata' were not flames, but some smouldering remnants of the cargo. Coast Guard Dorniers continued to maintain vigil from the air, keeping a lookout for any oil spill. Ships with special pollutioncontrol equipment were on standby. The experts fromSMIT Salvage were sourcing equipment to remove furnace oil from the wing tanks of the 'SSL Kolkata'. The ship has nearly 211 tonnes of fuel that will remain a cause of concern even after it is towed to deeper waters. The 'Lewek Altair' was operating near the affected ship, a similar vessel, the 'Lewek Harrier' from Singapore was expected to join the salvage efforts on June 24. The tug 'Amrita' has sailed from Kakinada and will reach the area soon to tow the ship away from Sunderbans and the International Maritime Boundary Line with Bangladesh.
