The "Jin Yi 28" with a crew of 19 on board suffered engine failure and was disabled in the evening of Oct 1, 2017, off Shidao in the Yellow Sea. The unloaded vessel issued a distress signal and requested assistance at 10.12 p.m. The anchor was dropped to stop the ship from going adrift in adverse weather conditions with winds of 8-9 Beaufort and 9,4 meters wave height. The SAR ship "Bei Hai Jiu 113" (IMO: 9562764) was sent to assist from Qingdao and arrived at the scene on Oct 2 at 10.40 a.m. She managed to take disabled freighter in tow at 11.30 a.m. aand headed to Shidao guided by another tug which monitored the towing cable. The towage took about 10 hours, thereby constant contact was kept between the vessels to ensure the safety of the operation, and in the evening of Oct 2 at 7.53 p.m. the casualty was moored at Shidao anchorage, so the SAR ship could return to Quingdao.
