In May 2012, the two 23m DOT tugs commissioned by Poet, Singapore, completed their trials. The tugs, designed by the Macduff Ship Design, are the largest so far specifically designed around the Mampaey DOT system.

The Mampaey Dynamic Oval Towing (DOT) system is a 360 degree all around towing system. The DOT-system integrates the towing points for sailing ahead and astern into one system. The system adds safety, controllability and, above all, flexibility to the performance of tugs enabling them to rotate in all directions in a safe and controlled manner irrespective of the heading of the assisted vessel.

In exposed conditions this capability will always allow the tug to meet waves safely with bow forward. In confined spaces assisting vessels is much safer because with the 360° all-round towing system the tugs’ full power is available in any direction.

In November 2011, Torgem Shipbuilding Ind & Trade AS, Tuzla, Istanbul, Turkey placed an order with Macduff for the design of a 23m tug. Based on the 3 vessels on order in China for Poet of Singapore these tugs will also be equipped with the Mampaey DOT system.
