APM TERMINALS, the container port operator unit of AP Moller, will build a EUR100 million (US$131.52 million) container terminal at Port of Rotterdam's Maasvlakte II area using the Dutch consortium of GMB, Dura Vermeer and Imtech.

The work is to completed in April 2014 and will involve surfacing and laying cables and pipes, craneways and rail connections to be ready for operations by the end of the year, reported the UK's Port Technology International.

APM Terminals expects to double productivity on super postpanamax vessels on the 180-hectare site, and in its first phase the facility will handle 2.7 million TEU annually. The company aims to almost double capacity to 4.5 million TEU with sister company Maersk's twenty 18,000 TEU being the first to use the terminal.

The company will also feature 36 new lift-automated guided vehicles (Lift AGVs) at 15 metres long and three metres wide capable of carrying two containers at at a speed of 22 kph using onboard navigation system to place in 128 storage racks.
