Greek Oil Tanker Sinks West of Athens, Captain Missing
A Greek tanker carrying 2,000 tons
of oil sank near Elefsina, west of Athens today, according to
the Maritime Ministry press office. Monday, 05.Mar.2012, 14:35 (GMT+3)
The 48-year-old ship’s captain is missing, a spokesman at
the ministry’s press office, who declined to be named in line
with policy, said by telephone today. The rest of the crew was
unhurt.
The vessel belongs to the Greek company Viamar and was
carrying an 11-member crew, 1,800 tons of crude oil and 235 tons
of fuel oil, the ministry’s spokesman said. A rescue team is at
the site of the incident.
