TAMROTOR Marine Compressors (TMC) of Norway has received orders for 40
TMC SA 30 'Smart Air' compressors to be fitted on 20 Triple-E ships that
are being built for Maersk Line by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine
Engineering.
Two TMC SA 30 compressors will be fitted in all of the 18,000-TEU
container ships. The new compressors are said to exceed previous
industry records for fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions per
container that were set by the Emma Maersk class vessels, reports
UK-based Motorship.
TMC says its new compressed air production design will lower energy
consumption on board the ships by 40-50 per cent compared to
conventional compressors, which meets the criteria of the carrier's
sustainability strategy.
