2M CARRIERS Maersk and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) have joined Japan's MOL on routes between Asia and the east coast of South America to "simplify the network and improve operational responsiveness."
The agreement will cover 22 vessels operating two looped routes, reported Reuters. The main goods transported on this trade lane are electronics and automobile parts for Latin America's automobile industry.
Maersk Line and Geneva-based MSC are already sharing 185 vessels in the 2M Alliance deal signed last year.
MOL's existing service ‘CSW' will be split into two services to be jointly operated by the trio "for improved product efficiency, wider connectivity with our existing network over the key transshipment ports and more direct port coverage in Asia and east coast of South America," said the MOL statement.
The port rotation of the new joint service, the ‘SW2,' is: Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen-Chiwan, Shenzhen-Yantian, Hong Kong, Singapore, Santos, Paranagua, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Rio Grande, Paranagua, Santos, Coega, Singapore, Hong Kong, Busan.
The amended CSW is to call at: Shenzhen-Chiwan, Shenzhen-Yantian, Hong Kong, Singapore, Santos, Sepetiba, Itajai, Navegantes, Sao Francisco do Sul, Santos, Sepetiba, Cape Town, Durban, Singapore and back to Shenzhen- Chiwan
Maersk and MSC will each operate six ships on the ‘SW2,' while MOL will operate 10 ships on the ‘CSW.'
