Antwerp first quarter volume increases 9.5pc to 2.3 million TEU
BELGIUM's Port of Antwerp saw first quarter container traffic grow 9.5 per cent year on year to 2.3 million TEU, with other cargo volumes rising 5.9 per cent to 51 million tonnes.
The growth story wasn't consistent across all sectors, as ro-ro volumes fell 8.7 per cent to one million tonnes and conventional freight volumes decreased 3.5 per cent to 2.3 million tonnes.
Fruit shipments posted a steep decline of 37.7 per cent to 173,321 tonnes, year on year, reported the UK's Seatrade Global.
First quarter dry bulk volumes were up 3.6 per cent to 3.6 million tonnes, led by a 63.3 per cent increase in sand and gravel to 541,293 tonnes. Coal volume rose by 24.6 per cent from a year earlier to 373,829 tonnes.
