JAPAN's No 2 container shipping company, NYK, is expanding its service network linking Japan, Thailand and Vietnam by adding a new "Phoenix 2" service.
The company said in a release that it is introducing an additional service on the trade lane "to provide a more stable transport network that meets the increasing demand for container transport between Japan and southeast Asia".
In addition, the shipping line's existing service linking these countries, the "Phoenix" service, will be renamed the "Phoenix 1" service. The changes to its service network will take effect in the latter part of March.
The new weekly Phoenix 2 service will be independently operated by NYK using three 2,700 TEU containerships. Transit time between Kobe and Laem Chabang will be six days, which the company said is the fastest in the market. A round trip will take 21 days.
The port rotation is: Tokyo (Wed/Wed), Yokohama (Wed/Thu), Shimizu (Thu/Thu), Nagoya (Fri/Fri), Kobe (Sat/Sun), Laem Chabang (Sat/Mon), Ho Chi Minh (Wed/Thu) and back to Tokyo.
The first northbound sailing will be operated by the 2,664-TEU NYK Daniella, departing from Laem Chabang on March 28.
The weekly Phoenix 1 service will be operated by three 1,400 TEU containership, and a round trip will also take 21 days. Following the service name change, the first northbound sailing will be operated the 1,440 Cape Ferrol, departing from Bangkok on March 29.
The port rotation is: Osaka (Wed/Wed), Kobe (Wed/Thu), Tokyo (Fri/Sat), Yokohama (Sat/Sat), Laem Chabang (Sun/Sun), Bangkok (Sun/Mon), Laem Chabang (Tue/Tue), Ho Chi Minh (Thu/Thu) and back to Osaka.
