Georgia okay brings Ballast Water Treaty step closer to regulatory force
THE ratification of the UN's Ballast Water Management Convention, providing more restrictions on what you can do and where you can do it, came a step closer when the Black Sea nation of Georgia signed on, reports GAC Hot Port News.
Georgia has become the 100th party to the Convention on the International Maritime Satellite Organisation (IMSO C 1976) and accepted the 2008 amendments, said communque from UN's International Maritime Organisation.
"Georgia also deposited its instrument of accession to the Ballast Water Management treaty, bringing the total number of ratifications to 44 States, with 32.57 per cent of world tonnage (35 per cent of world tonnage is needed to meet entry into force criteria), said the communique.
