PROVIDER of less-than-container-load services, AGS World Transport, is forecasting positive trade growth in the intra-Asia LCL sector in 2015, particularly on short sea and feeder routes between Japan and Korea and Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka.
The company said in a release that it has seen sustained growth in the non vessel owning common carrier (NVOCC) sector in Asia and expects that to continue in 2015.
"We see more demand for LCL shipments across Asia, as freight forwarders want the flexibility of moving smaller shipments with greater frequency and to work with a neutral service provider," said president and CEO Mike Dye.
Short sea routes around Asia will not be impacted too much by the introduction of the 18,000-TEU vessels scheduled for delivery in 2015, added Mr Dye.
"Many of the ports in Asia's emerging markets are served by smaller containerships, due to infrastructure constraints. Typically the journey time is three or four days, our customers, the freight forwarders need to work with a reliable, responsive NVOCC with access to a multiple carrier network."
The company has established its own multi-customer neutral container freight station facilities in Singapore and Port Klang, Malaysia in order to provide a range of consolidation and de-consolidation services for its freight forwarder customers.
The fastest growing trade area worldwide is the intra-Asia trade corridor. In 2013 intra-Asia trade accounted for 25 per cent of Asia's total of US$6 trillion in exports, with 1.4 million TEU transported in the region. Emerging Asian economies are expected to grow by 6.9 per cent per annum from 2014-18.
