JAPANESE shipping company NYK awarded a total of 83 scholarships to Chinese students attending the Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) and Dalian Maritime University (DMU) in November.
Since the programme began in 2001 the company has awarded scholarships to 820 Chinese students.
At an awards ceremony held at SMU earlier this month, 36 students were recognised for their academic excellence and "encouraged to develop themselves into socially responsible and intelligent young Chinese filled with an international vision", a statement from the shipping line said.
During the event SMU vice-president Jin Yongxing, expressed his "sincere appreciation for NYK's continuous devotion to maritime education".
Forty-seven students attending DMU also received the scholarships.
