MAERSK group's port operator APM Terminals, the port operator within the AP Moller-Maersk group, is building 50 temporary tent houses for a new medical camp in Monrovia to help Liberia cope with the Ebola outbreak.
The medical camp will be equipped with offices, showers and toilets. It is expected to be fully functioning with medical teams by the end of this week.
The camp is being donated to Liberia's Ministry of Health, which will organise the medical teams in co-operation with international relief agencies.
The longer-term plan is to provide 100 tent houses, the company said.
The company has an emergency reponse plane in place at its terminal in Liberia, which has a workforce of 100 people, with a further 100-150 people employed by subcontractors.
People's temperatures are taken at the entrance to the port and hand-sanitising stations have been set up throughout terminal which handles services of Maersk, Mediterranean Shipping Co, CMA CGM's Delmas, Pacific International Lines and Grimaldi.
Like others, APM Terminals observes a 21-day quarantine policy for anyone who has been close to Ebola-infected areas and has also set up its own medical emergency room and medical evacuation plan for those working at the port since local hospital emergency rooms are inundated.
