A YET unnamed joint venture company, organised by "K" Line, will construct a 9,300-square metre cold storage warehouse outside Ho Chi Minh City to market increasingly popular Japanese chilled and frozen food.
"With the rapid modernisation of living in Vietnam from economic growth, there has been a shift from traditional eating habits," said the "K" Line statement.
"With Japanese supermarkets, convenience stores and restaurants expected to expand in the country, there is a shortage of cold storage, so cold chain upgrades will be required," it said.
Thus, "K" Line has entered into a joint venture with Cool Japan Fund and Japan Logistics Systems and to build and operate the US$15 million cold storage facility to open in 2016.
The investment ratio is "K" Line 26 per cent, Japan Logistics Systems, 25 per cent and Cool Japan Fund, 49 per cent.
Big spender Cool Japan Fund seeks to promote and develop demand for Japanese products and services, which now enjoying international appeal.
Much involved operationally is "K" Line unit Bangkok Cold Storage, which has been engaged in the cold storage in Thailand since 1989.
Bangkok Cold Storage's experience and expertise will be transferred to the new joint venture, storing foods and ingredients from Japan.
The other partner, Japan Logistics Systems, has been doing business in Vietnam for 20 years, will be employed for its local knowledge of local delivery.
