VESSELS navigating in the vicinity of of Shek Kwu Chau, south of Lantau and west of Lamma islands should proceed with caution for one month during trimming operations of underwater high spots, according to the Hong Kong Marine Department.
The work will be conducted 24/7 south of Shek Kwu Chau Island in the area bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates A) 22 degrees 09.353'N / 113 degrees 58.852'E; B) 22 degrees 09.190'N / 113 degrees 58.852'E; C) 22 degrees 09.190'N / 113 degrees 59.143'E; D) 22 degrees 08.974'N / 113 degrees 59.143'E; E) 22 degrees 08.973'N / 113 58.387'E and F) 22 degrees 09.352'N / 113 degrees 58.387'E.
The work will be carried out by one grab dredger, one splits hopper barge and tugs, Work boats will provide assistance. The number of vessels engaged will change from time to time, said the Hong Kong Marine Department.
A working area of 100 metres will be established around the dredger and hopper barge. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the positions of the anchors extending from the dredger and split hopper barge.
Vessels engaged in the operations will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.
