HAMBURG-BASED shipowner and maritime services provider ER Schiffahrt has attained its ISO Standard 50001 certification in energy management systems.
The achievement makes it the first German shipowner to have its entire fleet certified to all standards relevant to the shipping industry, including the compulsory SIM and ISPS codes and the MLC 2006 standard as well as the voluntary ISO standards 9001, 14001, OHSAS 18001
Tor Svensen, CEO of the classification society DNV GL Maritime, presented the ISO certificate to ER Schiffahrt CEO Herrmann Klein.
"With this new certificate ER Schiffahrt underscores its commitment to sustainable investments in optimising energy efficiency. ER Schiffahrt thus demonstrates it is well capable of handling the challenges of the maritime industry," said Mr Svensen.
"Having a state-of-the-art energy management system in place and minimising the fuel consumption of our vessels are crucial prerequisites for maintaining our competitive edge," said Dr Klein.
The company also received its new DNV GL Excellence Certificate for reliable ship operation and confirms adherence to an established set of above-average safety, environmental and quality standards.
The company has been holding this certificate for three years and is one of only eight shipping companies worldwide to have been awarded this certificate, said the press release.
