THE berthing of the 16,652-TEU MSC London has marked the historic arrival of the largest containership to call at the Port of Salalah, reports Muscat's Times of Oman.
"Not only does this illustrate Salalah's capability to handle vessels of this class, it also reflects the sound partnership and confidence that the MSC has in the port," said Salalah Port CEO David Gledhill.
Salalah will service the MSC London as well as another MSC vessel 10,000 TEUer in simultaneous container operations. Up to 3,000 TEU will be loaded onto the MSC London for transshipment as it moves from Singapore to the Black Sea.
"An average of 9,000 moves throughout the 24 hour cycle is the norm here at the Port of Salalah, a testament to Oman's investment in this state-of-the-art container terminal," said Mr Gledhill.
Salalah also announced the renewal of a multi-year agreement with Maersk Line, which has been a customer since the start of the port's operations in 1998.
