Russian cargo ship Sea Champion caught fire on Thursday night, August 7 in the Sea of Japan (East Sea).
The fire was reported in the ship’s engine room, however the crew managed to contain it, preventing its further spreading.
Unfortunately, one crew died in the fire.
According to Far Eastern basin emergency-rescue department, the dry cargo ship has been towed by the rescue boat Lazurit to Vladivostok, ITAR-TASS informed.
Sea Champion was en route from Vladivostok to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky transporting containers and automobiles (3,986 tonnes) when the fire occurred.
