Ocean carriers postpone mid-June peak season surcharge until July 1
OCEAN carriers have postponed the peak season surcharge from the Far East and Indian subcontinent to the US and Canada, reports the American Journal of Transportation of Plymouth, Massachusetts.
"The peak season surcharge announced earlier in the month with an effective date of June 15 has been postponed to July 1," said AJOT.
The announced peak season surcharges are US$320 per TEU, $400 per FEU, $450 per 40-foot high cube and $506 per 45-footer. There is also an $8 charge per cubic metre on less than container loads.
The expected mid-June general rate increase for shipments from the Far East and India to Canada has also been postponed to July 1. But some carriers are implementing a rate hike shipments bound for the US.
