Dalian box volume to be 6.4 million TEU when full 2011 numbers counted

AS of late December 2011, northeastern China's port of Dalian had handled six million TEU as full-year container throughput was expected to reach 6.4 million TEU, Xinhua reports.

CONTAINER traffic at the port of Antwerp in 2011 increased two per cent year on year to a record 8.64 million TEU, according to provisional figures released by the port authority.

AS two of China's major ports for foreign trade, Shanghai and Ningbo customs recorded slower containerised trade cargo growth during the period from January to November in 2011, which fell into single-digits, although trade value kept up with double-digit growth, Xinhua reports.

SHANGHAI's annual near full year container volume reached 30 million TEU on Friday, December 23, a world record, while China-wide, major box port throughput to date was up 12 per cent to 149.1 million TEU year on year, according to the China Communications Ministry. 
Hutchison to sue Rotterdam port for US$1.2 billion compensation

HONG KONG's Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) plans to sue the Rotterdam port authority for US$1.2 billion compensation because of the damage suffered by its European Container Terminal (ECT) by the opening of the Maasvlakte 2 cargo handling facility.
