Oman: Port of Salalah General Cargo Terminal Expansion Initiated

Port of Salalah’s general cargo terminal and liquid jetty project has been initiated by the Ministry of Transport and Communications at a preliminary meeting held recently with key stakeholders from the ministry, port and winning contractor.

Port of Salalah’s general cargo terminal and liquid jetty project has been initiated by the Ministry of Transport and Communications at a preliminary meeting held recently with key stakeholders from the ministry, port and winning contractor.

The project will increase cargo handling capacity to 20 million tonnes per annum (mpta) of dry bulk commodities and over 6 million tonnes of liquid products, in comparison to the port’s present cargo handling capacity of 6.5 mtpa during 2011.

Key Highlights

- Contract Value: OMR 55,000,000 (USD 142,800,000) – Investment Government of Oman,

- Contract awarded to Hani Archirodon Construction, April 2012,

- Contract period: 19 Months (including mobilization).

Details: 1266 meters (4 berths) of Concrete Block Quay to be constructed at the Leeward side of the existing Breakwater with 18 meters of Draft (Designed for vessels up to 144000 DWT).

Project also includes:

- Dredging of harbor basin,

- Reclamation,

- Protection & Revetment,

- Roads & Pavement,

- Buildings.
