PERU's Terminales Portuarios Euroandinos (TPE) is preparing to start modernisation in the mid-January to mid-February to develop Paita Port in the northern region of Piura at a cost of US$150 million.

According to comments made by the president of the National Port Authority (APN) Frank Boyle, the Peruvian government has issued all the relevant documents to authorise the beginning of the operations, reports Andina Peruvian News Agency.

"Container movement in Paita is about 150,000 TEU and has registered a very important growth lately," he was quoted as saying.

Mr Boyle said TPE aims to build 300 metres of berth at least 13 metres deep. The Paita Port will have 12 hectares of container yard for quay gantry cranes and yard gantries.
