Antwerp Port to raise harbour fees by 2pc, first hike in 3 years

THE Port of Antwerp plans to increase harbour fees by two per cent in 2012, to finance infrastructure improvements, the first increase in three years.

"When it comes to setting the level of dues, the port authority remains a very stable partner for port users," said CEO Eddy Bruyninckx.

"The rates policy . . . is characterised by continuity, not by day-to-day considerations with sudden increases or decreases."

However, the port will continue to offer a 10 per cent discount to environmentally-friendly ships, reports Newark's Journal of Commerce.
