Cargo throughput of all South Korean ports achieved 106.79m tons in November, an increase of 13.5% year-on-year and a new record for the month, according to the statistics of the Korean Ministry of Land, Transportation and Maritime Affairs (MLTM).

Container throughput at the nation’s ports in November was 1.65m TEU, an increase of 10.3% year-on-year. Busan’s throughput was nearly 1.21 TEU, accounting for 74% of the total.

Elsewhere, at major ports such as Inchon and Ulsan, cargo volumes were boosted by soaring import and export volumes of iron ore and oil products.

For the year to date, the cargo throughput of Korean ports reached 1,093m tons, an increase of 11.5% over the first 11 months of 2009.
