The top US diplomat dealing with Caspian energy issues remains certain that a “southern corridor” taking natural gas from the Caspian Basin to Europe will be built. But the envoy added that Turkmenistan is unlikely to be one of the countries supplying the gas.

Lukoil considers Caspian shipping options

Russia’s Lukoil is considering shipping Kazakhstani oil through the partly Kazakhstani-owned Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), rbcdaily.ru reported October 5.

Lukoil is considering four routes: the CPC, oil tankers to the Lukoil Volgograd refinery, the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline, and the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline.

Russia handed Turkey draft agreement on Samsun-Ceyhan pipeline project

Russia has handed Turkey a draft intergovernmental agreement on the Samsun-Ceyhan pipeline project with oil supplies totaling 25 million tons per year, RIA Novosti reported. Russian Deputy Energy Minister Anatoly Yanovsky noted that the draft intergovernmental agreement was previously discussed with the Turkish side and taken as a basis for further activities.

Erdoğan complains about Nabucco pipeline delay

The Turkish prime minister has complained about the delay in the Nabucco project, designed to carry Caspian natural gas to Europe. “We say we are ready for everything, but those playing the coordination role have not yet come up with serious action,” Recep Tayyip Erdogan told the Black Sea Energy and Economic Forum, organized by the Atlantic Council, yesterday.
Iran gas out of the picture in pipeline politics

A proposed southern corridor gas route will not use any Iranian natural gas in the near future due to a row over Tehran’s disputed nuclear program, according to a top U.S. official. "There will be a southern corridor, but Iranian gas will not be part of it," Ambassador Richard Morningstar, special envoy of the U.S. Secretary of State for Eurasian Energy, said during the Black Sea Energy and Economic Forum in Istanbul on Thursday.
