When the "MSC Opera" was detained in Southampton on May 25 she
had arrived overladen and also was in violation of several international
safety codes that the UK's Maritime and Coastguard Agency described as
major. There were multiple issues that led to the conclusion of a major
non-conformity. The safety code violations included an issue of
emergency preparedness and were violations of the International Safety
Maritime Code. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency also had concerns
about the ship's stability. The "MSC Opera" arrived overladen, which
resulted in an investigation as to how the crew were calculating
stability. The "MSC Opera" currently is sailing along the coast of
Norway and due back in Southampton on June 4, 2011.
