106 passengers fall ill with Norovirus on Celebrity Infinity
According to Reuters, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that the vessel was disinfected in San Diego.
The ship, the Celebrity Infinity, recorded that 106 of its 2,117 guests had come down with the highly contagious norovirus.
In addition, 6 of the 964 crew members also came down with the virus. While rarely fatal, norovirus has the ability to cause such unpleasant symptoms as vomiting and diarrhea.
The Celebrity Cruises vessel returned to San Diego on Monday. There, it underwent a thorough cleaning and disinfection to make sure the virus would not spread further. Once at port, passengers disembarked the ship in stages to prevent further contact with those who fell ill.
The vessel departed San Diego on March 29 for a two-week cruise with different stops across Mexico.
