DANISH shipping giant Maersk Line has joined Singapore's APL in becoming one of two carriers willing to allow credit card payment for demurrage in US ports.

By accepting credit cards - instead of cheques - from Visa, Mastercard or American Express, Maersk hopes to accelerate transit, reports American Shipper. Customers can pay by phone only by contacting its cargo release team on (877) 699 9444 quoting bill of lading and container numbers.
