HAINAN POS is reported to be purchasing container slots on Cosco's transpacific SEA service to cover the period from mid-February until the end of April to provide three weekly transpacific sailings.

A report by Alphaliner said the carrier will load 300 TEU per week on the SEA service. It already offers a China-America West Coast Express (TP) service, jointly operated with TS Lines. This service operates two skipped sailings out of six weekly sailings in each cycle.

It said that the shipping line has also been purchasing lots since November on CSCL's America-Asia Container service (AAC), with a weekly allocation of 800 TEU.

"Hainan POS entered the transpacific trade in August 2010 while TSL entered this trade in November 2010 when it teamed up with HPOS and joined its three months old loop within a vessel sharing agreement. The two carriers then introduced a three-loop transpacific system in May 2011, replacing their single joint TP loop. Two of these loops were subsequently closed, in July and September 2011 respectively," Alphaliner said.
