2011, a decline in growth from last year's 11.8 year-on-year increase,
according to the preliminary figures from PIERS.
Overall, US containerised export performance, measured in TEU, is much
better than its imports. The export volumes are estimated to grow 5.8
per cent year on year in 2011, while import volumes only to rise 2.2 per
cent.
Import volume growth started to show apparent slowdown in third quarter
to 1.6 per cent due to 3.7 per cent drop in imports from Asia. This
leads to a preliminary forecast of a slight 0.1 per cent full-year
import growth from Asia.
