CHINA Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) plans to hike shipping charges from January 1 by US$25 per TEU for Asia-Europe voyages and $400 per FEU for the transpacific.

The company will also raise charges for cargo bound for Central America from Asia by $560 per FEU, while that for routes between Asia and the Middle East charges will be increased $150 per FEU.

With the Chinese New Year approaching, almost all routes are facing a surge in the shipping volume, and some companies have even shipped their cargo for February in advance, said a company insider, according to China Business News.

Utilisation for European routes recently hit 90 per cent while US east port stood at 95 per cent and west coast ports achieved 85 per cent.
