DANISH shipping giant Maersk is to make eight of its 7,450 TEU ships
into 8,500-TEU vessels by adding two extra layers of containers stowed
forward of the accommodation block and raising the wheelhouse to see
over the highest stacks.
But the report from Paris-based Alphaliner did not said whether the
remaining eight SAM-MAX vessels would be retrofitted with an elevated
wheelhouse and a 1,500 TEU capacity increase.
The upgrade is taking place at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine
Engineering (DSME) Okpo yard at the outfitting berth with its first ship
of Maersk Lota to be delivered and deployed on its Far East-ECSA route.
