DENMARK's Maersk Line has been named the world's most on-time carrier
among the top carriers as 63 per cent of the world's containerships were
found to have arrived on time in the third quarter, according to Drewry
Maritime Research's latest schedule reliability report.
The result surpasses the 55 per cent of on time arrivals recorded in the
second quarter, reports Newark's Journal of Commerce. Out of the top 20
shipping lines measured by vessel fleet size across all the trades
covered by Drewry, APL clinched the number two spot and Hyundai Merchant
Marine came in third.
Maersk interestingly claimed the top spot after
launching a new guaranteed schedule service at a number of ports in Asia
and Europe in September.
The quarterly reliability report measured the on-time performance of
3,821 ship arrivals at selected ports. The report considers a ship on
time when it meets its estimated time of arrival or reaches the port a
day early.
Thirteen of the top 20 ocean liners were shown to have equalled or
surpassed the 63 per cent industry average, and the report said that all
but three major carriers improved their scores from the preceding
quarter.
