Due to a number of security flaws the Transportation Board arrested the "Stena Feronia" in Karlskrona in the night of Jan 24, 2012. Some 20 defiencies were detected during an inspection, including the absence of handrails, emergency exits and lighting.
The deficiencies were deemed so serious that the Transport Authority stopped the ferry from leaving to Gdynia.
The shortcomings are now being addressed.
Stena Line had temporarily borrowed the ferry for two weeks.
As the ferry is flying the English flag also English authorities have to approve the seaworthyness before it is allowed to sail. Around 100 people were affected by the detention and were transferred to the company's other ferries to Poland on Jan 24.
