The Danish National Bank has issued a new coin with a maritime motif, a prototype of world’s largest container carrier Emma Mærsk which was delivered from Odense Steel Shipyard in 2006. The ship has now an official capacity of 15,550 TEU.
The new coin has a value of DKK 20, and is the third with a maritime motif. Previously two coins have been illustrating the world’s first diesel driven vessel, the Selandia, and the royal yacht Dannebrog “I am very happy for a coin with Emma Mærsk, named after my wife to whom I was married 65 years”, says Arnold Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller.
Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller also says that he will start collecting on the coins so that he can be sure to always have an "Emma-coin" in his pocket.
