AS HURRICANE Joaquin wreaks havoc in parts of the US, relatives are demanding answers following revelations a cargo ship that vanished in the Bermuda Triangle sailed into the eye of the storm.
Cargo ship El Faro was carrying 33 people when it disappeared on Thursday as it sailed into a powerful Category 4 hurricane near the Bahamas’ Crooked Island.
Battered in fierce seas churned up by Hurricane Joaquin, the vessel took on water and lost power before it went missing.
On Sunday, the US Coast Guard said that its aircrews had spotted “life jackets, life rings, containers and an oil sheen” in the sprawling search area, in addition to a shipping container. But they have not yet been able to confirm whether the debris and oil is from the 790-foot El Faro.
The day before, it said it located an orange life ring from the missing cargo ship.
