Turkish-Owned dry cargo ship "Ibrahim Konan" went aground in Çanakkale Strait On 01 July 2015 at 03:00 PM, 108 meters-long Panamanian flagged dry cargo vessel "M/V Ibrahim KONAN" fully laden with cargo "ammonium sulfate" went aground at the Poyraz bay near the Eceabat district in the Canakkale Strait.
The ship was on the way from Russia to Egypt and passing from North to South at the time of accident which took place at the narrowest area and during the sharpest turn (Nara point) in the Strait.
The ship could not prevent gouing aground despite anchors were dropped to slow down.
After the accident, tug Sonduren-7 and fast rescue boat KEGM 9 were sent to the scene by the Vessel Traffic Services.
