Is it possible to be leftist without saying ‘Kurd’?

I personally have difficulty understanding the fact that a politician like Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who has Kurdish roots, did not voice his hopes for a peaceful solution to Turkey’s Kurdish problem and did not even utter the word “Kurd” during the Republican People’s Party (CHP) congress on Saturday.
