Foreign firms eye $200 mln Oman airport project (Reuters via Yahoo! Philippines News)

MUSCAT, March 11 (Reuters) - The firms bidding for new airport in Oman include India's Larsen & Toubro , South Korea's Hanjin Heavy Industries and Korea's Daewoo Engineering & Construction , an official said on Wednesday.

Tens of thousands of Israeli troops backed by tanks battled Hamas fighters in Gaza fields and roads on Sunday as the Palestinian death toll from the offensive passed 500. Israeli forces surrounded the enclave's main city and families fled other battlefield towns in packed trucks and cars to escape the biggest Israeli military.

Jewish volunteers uphold 15-year tradition of serving at Our Daily Bread on Christmas For the 15th year, members of the Baltimore Hebrew Congregation stepped in at Our Daily Bread, the downtown Baltimore soup kitchen, so the usual volunteers, several of them Christians, could celebrate Christmas Day at home with their families.

British and Spanish authorities tried to save a bulk carrier which hit rocks on Gibraltar's southern tip Friday as storms hammered the British colony, local officials said.

The Liberian-registered Fedra was dragging her anchor in a force 8 gale Friday afternoon. Despite the efforts of two tug boats to hold the ship clear of land, its anchor broke and the stern of the 35,000 tonne vessel smashed against rocks at Europa Point -- Europe's most southerly spot.

Local officials said they did not immediately know the condition of the ship or what it was carrying.

A Gibraltarian rescue helicopter hovered overhead, trying to rescue the 31 crew, as winds of around 70 miles an hour battered the British territory and the southern Spanish coast.
