Gas-powered ferry delivered in Norway
Thursday, 02.Feb.2012, 14:13 (GMT+3)

Estonia’s BLRT Grupp has delivered the gas-powered ferry ‘Edøyfjord’ to transport company Fjord1, for operations on the Edøya-Sandvika route to Smøla in Nordmøre county, Western Norway.

Estonia’s BLRT Grupp has delivered the gas-powered ferry ‘Edøyfjord’ to transport company Fjord1, for operations on the Edøya-Sandvika route to Smøla in Nordmøre county, Western Norway.

Built in class to Det Norske Veritas, the ship was designed by Multi Maritime of Norway, with the hull and pre-outfitting works undertaken at Western Baltija Shipbuilding in Klaipeda, Lithuania. Final outfitting, testing and finalising were performed by Fiskerstrand Verft in Ã…lesund, Norway.

The 1,634GRT ferry has a total length of 66.4 metres and a beam of 13.6 metres, with capacity for 50 cars or four heavy goods vehicles as well as 146 passengers and staff. A pair of Caterpillar motors drive Schottel azimuth thrusters to give a service speed of 11-12 knots. The new ferry is built for use in open sea, in the EU trade area C.
