
Estonia’s BLRT Grupp has delivered the gas-powered ferry ‘Edøyfjord’
to transport company Fjord1, for operations on the Edøya-Sandvika route
to Smøla in Nordmøre county, Western Norway.
Built in class to Det Norske Veritas, the ship was designed by
Multi Maritime of Norway, with the hull and pre-outfitting works
undertaken at Western Baltija Shipbuilding in Klaipeda, Lithuania. Final
outfitting, testing and finalising were performed by Fiskerstrand Verft
in Ã…lesund, Norway.
The 1,634GRT ferry has a total length of 66.4 metres and a beam
of 13.6 metres, with capacity for 50 cars or four heavy goods vehicles
as well as 146 passengers and staff. A pair of Caterpillar motors drive
Schottel azimuth thrusters to give a service speed of 11-12 knots. The
new ferry is built for use in open sea, in the EU trade area C.
