Over the years Macduff Ship Design Ltd has accumulated a wealth of experience in the design of marine craft from small open fish farm work boats up to large self propelled backhoe dredger units, from classically styled motor yachts to the most modern of deep water stern trawlers. In December 2011, Macduff completed the year with several new designs produced for various shipyards.

The Company completed designs for 65m AHTS vessel, 45m Surveillance vessel, 42m Security boat, 36m Dive Support Vessel and a 32m Fi-Fi Tug.

Macduff Ship Design Ltd uses the latest in Computer Aided Design (CAD) packages to enable it to optimise all of its designs in terms of economy of build and operation in service. Macduff constantly strives to create forward thinking designs that are stable, fuel efficient and tailor made for the task in hand. The company is proud for being able to tackle all jobs no matter how large or small, this has typically ranged from full design packages down to Class approved drawing work for retro fit modifications to standby vessels operating out of Aberdeen. Macduff has also undertaken investigative work where existing vessels have experienced problems with sea keeping, handling or directional stability.

The company established reasons for the problems and put forward recommendations for improvements. Tank testing is carried out on new designs to determine optimum hull shape, power/ speed requirements. Handling characteristics and streamlines are used to determine the position/ shape of hull appendages. Macduff has also carried out tank testing on other designers existing vessels to rectify handling problems.
