Singapore's APL receives first two of thirty-two 10,000 TEU newbuildings

Singapore's APL receives first two of thirty-two 10,000 TEU newbuildings

Saturday, 03.Dec.2011, 01:03 (GMT+3)
SINGAPORE-based shipping giant Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) has announced that its container shipping arm, APL, has received the first pair of thirty-two 10,000 TEU ships.

"We're upsizing and upgrading, and when we're done we'll have the strongest fleet in our company's 165-year history," said NOL Group CEO Ng Yat Chung.

The new mega ships will replace APL's older and smaller vessels and help reduce operating costs with more cargo capacity, enhanced design and more sophisticated engines.

"They'll also reduce the environmental impact of container shipping. The new vessels will consume less fuel and emit less exhaust than the ships they replace. Because the ships also have greater cargo capacity, they'll reduce the amount of emissions-per-container carried," said Mr Ng.
